ESTE É O TEXTO INTRODUTÓRIO QUE APARECE NO SITE DOS JOVENS ATLANTICISTAS E NO SITE DA CIMEIRA DA NATO QUE OCORRERÁ NA PRÓXIMA SEMANA EM LISBOA.
The young leaders who participate in this event will include, first, a group of 60-70 young professional leaders who have been recruited from across the Allied and Partner nations. They are professionals in the early part of their careers (ages 23 to 35), including young parliamentarians, think tank analysts, entrepreneurs and business people, journalists and bloggers, activists, researchers and young people involved in the summit, students from leading universities in Portugal. Although some will already be familiar with NATO and the transatlantic security relationship, the organizers have also reached out to other networks to recruit outstanding young leaders who have had less exposure to NATO issues. By engaging with young people who are already beginning to make their mark on such issues as cybersecurity, energy policy, democracy building, and human rights, we hope to stimulate a full-fledged debate about the role of NATO in responding to contemporary security challenges, while engaging new communities in discussions about NATO and its future.
By engaging the brightest of Portugal’s youth, the summit will build an opportunity for more extensive outreach within the host nation, helping to encourage a national discussion of the merits of the Alliance long after the NATO leaders have left Lisbon.
